RoboKitty: A Magical Girl Animation

Magical Girl Anime (mahō shōjo, or 魔法少ε₯³) is a subgenre of Japanese media that emerged in the 1960s and continues to this day that centers on girls possessing and transforming into an alter ego with magical abilities. The popularization of Magical Girl media around the world through anime Sailor Moon (1991) has caused countries in the west to create their own versions, including Winx Club in Italy, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir in France, and My Little Pony: Equestria Girls in the US.

I was inspired by this genre when making RoboKitty, who is a magical cat that transforms into a glamorous (and cheesy) alter ego to lure in her natural prey –– computer mice.

Character details – RoboKitty has a sleek, slightly gritty, and mechanical presence in a dull world to set the scene for her magical girl transformation arc.
